Selling on eBay with ResaleStudio
This guide explains what ResaleStudio does with an eBay account, what it leaves to eBay, what eBay needs from you for each listing, and how to connect, disconnect and remove your data. Everything ResaleStudio does in your account goes through eBay’s official API (application programming interface, the route eBay provides for other software), within the limits eBay sets.
What ResaleStudio does on eBay
Once your eBay account is connected, ResaleStudio can:
- Connect with eBay’s own sign-in. eBay uses OAuth (open authorization, a standard way to approve an app without handing over your password). You sign in on ebay.com, see the permissions ResaleStudio asks for, and approve them there. We never see or store your eBay password.
- Import your active listings when you sync, including older listings you created on eBay itself or with another tool, not only ones made through eBay’s newer Inventory API. Listing details are refreshed each time you sync.
- Create a fixed-price listing from an item in your inventory and publish it to eBay.
- Edit the price, quantity, title and description of a listing after you change them in ResaleStudio.
- End a listing from ResaleStudio.
- Keep quantities in step. When an item sells on Etsy, we lower the eBay quantity, or end the eBay listing when the last one goes. Sales are picked up on a 30-minute schedule, so expect up to half an hour between the sale and the update.
- Import your eBay orders every 30 minutes into your order list, next to your Etsy orders.
- Respond to Best Offers from buyers. When a buyer sends an offer on one of your listings, you can accept or decline it from your orders page.
- Refresh views and watch counts about twice a day.
- Alert you (in the app, and by email if you turn that on) to new orders, low stock, listings ended because they sold out, sync problems, and a connection that needs renewing.
What ResaleStudio does not do on eBay
On eBay, ResaleStudio does not:
- Send offers to watchers. You can respond to offers buyers send you, but ResaleStudio does not start them.
- Make counter-offers. Accept or decline only. To negotiate, use eBay directly.
- Relist. When a listing has ended, create a new one from your inventory instead.
- Use Promoted Listings or other eBay marketing tools.
- Change your prices in response to other sites. Pricing rules you set in ResaleStudio are applied when you save them. We do not watch prices on other marketplaces or reprice your items against them.
Listing details eBay requires
To publish a listing, eBay needs the following. ResaleStudio collects them in the listing form and checks that eBay will accept them, but the choices are yours.
- A category from eBay’s category tree.
- The item’s condition. eBay allows different conditions in different categories. If the condition you picked is not offered in the category you chose, ResaleStudio uses the closest one eBay accepts there.
- Item specifics such as brand, size or color. Which ones are required depends on the category.
- Shipping, payment and return policies. These come from the business policies already set up in your eBay account; ResaleStudio does not create its own. If your account has no business policies yet, set them up on eBay before you publish.
Connect, reconnect and disconnect
Connect
Go to Settings → Marketplaces and choose Connect on the eBay card. A window opens on ebay.com where you sign in and see eBay’s consent page listing the permissions ResaleStudio asks for. Permissions are granted there, on eBay, not in ResaleStudio. When the window closes, your account shows as connected.
Reconnect
Now and then the eBay card asks you to reconnect. There are two reasons: we have started asking for a permission that older connections did not include (reading your orders, for example), or eBay has let the access it gave us expire. Reconnecting repeats the same consent step on ebay.com. Your products and orders in ResaleStudio are not affected.
Disconnect
Choose Disconnect on the eBay card. Right away we delete the access tokens eBay gave us and the eBay listing records that link your products to your account. Your products, your order history and your settings stay as they are, and nothing changes on eBay: disconnecting does not end or alter any listing.
Disconnecting removes the tokens stored with us; it does not withdraw the consent on eBay’s side. To do that as well, revoke ResaleStudio’s access from your eBay account settings.
Delete your data
To delete your ResaleStudio account and everything in it, including products, orders and marketplace connections, email info@resalestudio.com from the address you signed up with. We delete your data within 30 days and confirm when it is done.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we keep while your account is open and for how long.
